Adejola Adeyemi Crown

A graduate of National Open University of Nigeria, Mayowa Adeniran, has recounted how she overcame a prolonged academic delay, saying determination and faith helped her complete a programme that stretched beyond its expected duration.

Adeniran, who is among the 24,575 students graduating at the institution’s 15th convocation ceremony, shared her experience in an emotional post on Facebook.

She explained that what was meant to be a four-year course extended to over six years due to persistent delays, particularly during her project phase.

“What was supposed to be a normal school project turned into a six-year journey filled with delays, frustration, uncertainty, and moments of deep exhaustion,” she wrote.

According to her, one of the major challenges was having to work under three different project supervisors, a situation she said repeatedly disrupted her progress.

“Each change came with a different style, new expectations, and sometimes the need to rework things I had already done. It was stressful, draining, and at times very discouraging,” she stated.

She added that the experience tested her beyond academics, noting that it demanded patience, resilience, and strong faith.

“There were times I questioned if I would ever finish, but I refused to give up,” she said.

Reflecting on the journey, Adeniran described her graduation as a personal victory, saying the struggles had strengthened her resolve.

“This year, I am not just celebrating the completion of a project, but the strength it took to keep going despite everything. Delay is not denial,” she added.

She also paid tribute to her late mother, Mrs Ruth Adeniran, and her father, Tunde Adeniran, acknowledging their influence and support throughout the period.
