Akure — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State has urged eligible youths and citizens to register as voters, following the registration of 18,045 new voters in the state between August and December 2025.
Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs Oluwatoyin Babalola, disclosed this on Tuesday during a consultation meeting with political party leaders and members of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Akure, the state capital.
She said the figures were recorded during the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which began on August 25 and will conclude on December 10, 2025.
According to Babalola, 9,290 voters transferred their registrations within the state, 2,353 corrections were processed, and over 3,725 issues of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were addressed.
She also noted that 1,838 previously uncollected PVCs were collected during the period.
“The achievement reflects the commitment of all stakeholders to a peaceful and orderly registration process.”
“It is imperative to mobilise eligible youths and other citizens who have not yet registered to actively participate in the democratic process. Individuals who previously registered but have not collected their PVCs should be encouraged to do so to reinforce inclusive electoral participation,”she said.
Babalola reiterated INEC’s commitment to collaborating with political parties to ensure the success of electoral activities in Nigeria and commended CSOs for their efforts in sensitising, mobilising, and educating citizens throughout the CVR exercise.
Inter Party Advisory Council State Chairman, Mr Adesanya Olaoluwa, commended INEC for improvements to the registration process and called for more citizens to register their PVCs to strengthen the state’s democratic engagement.
Representatives from PDP, APM, AAC, LP, YPP, AA, PRP, NNPP, APP, SDP, Accord, ADC, APGA, Boot, and ADP attended the meeting.
