As Nigeria marks the 2026 edition of Democracy Day, a non-governmental organisations, the From Above Humanitarian Foundation, FAHF, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government and Nigerians on the nation’s democratic journey, while calling for improved security and inclusive governance.

In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, the Executive Director of the Foundation, Ambassador Blessing Abel, described June 12 as a significant reminder of the sacrifices made by Nigerians in pursuit of democracy, justice and national development.

She said that while the country has continued to sustain democratic governance, more efforts are needed to address insecurity, economic hardship, hunger and other challenges affecting citizens across the country.

She stressed that the dividends of democracy should be reflected in the wellbeing of the people through improved security, access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities and social protection.

She said, “On this Democracy Day, we congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government and all Nigerians for keeping faith with democracy. We also salute the resilience of citizens who continue to contribute to nation-building despite prevailing challenges.”

Noting that women, children, youths, farmers, and Persons Living With Disabilities, PLWD, remain among the groups most affected by insecurity and economic difficulties, Ambassador Abel stressed the need for policies that promote inclusion and shared prosperity.

She therefore urged government at all levels to strengthen efforts towards protecting lives, supporting vulnerable populations and creating opportunities that would improve the quality of life of ordinary Nigerians.

The foundation reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian service and community development, while expressing optimism that Nigeria would continue to make progress through unity, accountable leadership and active citizen participation.

She added, “Democracy can only thrive where there is peace, security, inclusion and hope for the people. Together, we can build a more prosperous and equitable nation for all.”
