Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has issued a 10 day ultimatum to the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, asking them to cancel the recent Ibadan elective convention and address what he described as a growing crisis in the party.

Lamido made the demand while receiving a large group of supporters made up of former chairmen, commissioners and other political allies.

He said the party must dissolve the convention and put in place a national caretaker committee to stabilise the PDP.

He expressed concern that long standing members like himself have been pushed aside by what he called new forces trying to disrupt the party’s structure.

According to him, the internal conflict is being driven by people who want to weaken his influence within the party.

The former governor explained that his recent legal moves were not for personal gain or to position himself for any leadership role.

He said he only went to court to defend the PDP’s legacy and to protect his rights which he claimed had been violated.

Lamido insisted that the party constitution still recognises Umar Damagum and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the legitimate leaders of the PDP until their tenure ends on 8 December 2025.

He warned that leaving the party without clear leadership could affect the ambitions of aspirants, serving officials and those preparing for re election.

“I am pushing for a caretaker committee. I am calling on Wike, Damagum and others to forgive one another and support the formation of a unified caretaker body,” he said.

Lamido urged the party’s leadership to convene a joint meeting and discuss the challenges openly.

He said the PDP needs honest conversations to restore unity and credibility.

He told his supporters to remain calm until 8 December, adding that the decisions taken in the coming days will determine the direction of the party.
