A heart-wrenching tragedy has rocked the Nsukka area of Enugu State, where a man identified as Ogbonna, popularly known as Mourinho, is accused of murdering his former lover, Chisom Ayogu, following her revelation that she was about to get married.

Chisom, who hailed from Amufie in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, reportedly visited Ogbonna at his residence on New Anglican Road, Nsukka, to inform him about her planned wedding. However, what was intended to be a peaceful visit quickly escalated into violence.

According to local sources, the pair got into a heated argument, which allegedly resulted in Ogbonna physically attacking Chisom.

“Neighbours said they heard loud voices and rushed to the scene.”

“They found Chisom lying unconscious and bleeding. She was immediately taken to the hospital, but sadly, the doctors confirmed she was dead on arrival,” one community member revealed.

Ogbonna, a native of Igogoro—also in Igbo-Eze North LGA—was promptly arrested by officers of the Nigeria Police and is currently in custody as investigations continue.

Though the Enugu State Police Command has not released an official statement, a senior police officer confirmed the arrest, stating, “The suspect is in our custody, and investigations are ongoing to determine the motive and all surrounding circumstances.”

The incident has sparked grief and anger in both Chisom’s and Ogbonna’s communities. Many residents are demanding swift justice for the victim.

“This is not just tragic; it’s senseless. A young woman was cut down just because she wanted to move on with her life.”

“We want the authorities to ensure justice is served,” said a relative of the deceased.
