The family of a young Lagos banker, Osemudiamen Idemudia, has been thrown into mourning after his body was discovered days after he was declared missing.

The 26-year-old, who worked in the Point-of-Sale unit of a commercial bank in Ikota, was last seen on Friday, May 9, in the CMS area of Lagos Island.

His relative, identified simply as Segun, confirmed on Wednesday that the body was found at a morgue in the Yaba area of Lagos during a frantic search by family members across hospitals and mortuaries.

“We found Osemudiamen’s body on Sunday. He was murdered. There were machete cuts on his head, face, and legs,” a visibly devastated Segun said. “It’s heartbreaking and confusing. We don’t know why anyone would do this to him.”

According to Segun, the morgue attendants said the corpse was brought in by police officers. However, they could not provide any information about where or how the body was recovered, nor could they identify the officers who delivered it.

“They only told us the police brought him in, but they had no details of which station or officer. That has made this even more difficult for the family to understand,” he added.

Osemudiamen’s remains were laid to rest on Tuesday, the family confirmed.

His father, Julius Idemudia, recounted his son’s last known movements. According to him, Osemudiamen left work alongside a colleague for a scheduled appointment with a senior bank official at the bank’s head office in CMS.

“Unfortunately, the official later cancelled the meeting. After they arrived at CMS, they decided to go home. That was the last anyone saw of him,” Julius narrated.

“He usually boarded a bus to Iyana Ipaja and then to Igando where we live. But when it got late and we hadn’t heard from him, we became alarmed.”

The family reported the incident at the Igando Police Station, located near their residence in the Akesan area.

“We couldn’t sleep. We kept hoping we’d get a call or message from him. It’s a nightmare no parent should ever experience,” the grieving father added.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, did not respond to multiple calls or text messages seeking clarification on the case.
