The Oyo State Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media suggesting that teachers and students abducted during last Friday’s attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area have regained freedom.
The clarification was given by the Special Adviser on Security to Governor Seyi Makinde, Abayomi Fagbenro, who said as of Thursday morning, there was no truth in the claims making the rounds online.
According to him, the reports claiming that the abducted victims had been released were false and misleading, urging members of the public to rely only on verified information from official channels.
He said security agencies were still actively working to secure the safe return of the victims abducted during the attack on three schools in the Ahoro-Esinle and Yawota axis of Oriire Local Government Area.
Also speaking on the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that there was no report indicating the release of the abducted teachers and students.
Ayanlade noted that security efforts had been intensified in collaboration with other agencies to rescue the victims and ensure their safe return.
The incident, which has continued to generate concern across the state, saw gunmen invade Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, and LEA Primary School in Esiele, abducting several pupils, students and teachers, while killing at least one person.
Authorities said operations were ongoing to track the abductors and secure the release of all those still in captivity.
