The Convener of the Ogun West Initiative, Bolaji Adeniji, has dismissed suggestions of a rift between Governor Dapo Abiodun and the senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, over the senator’s interest in the 2027 governorship race.

He said both leaders have maintained cordial ties and continued to work together for the progress of the state.

Adeniji explained that rather than political rivalry, the governor and the senator have strengthened their cooperation in pursuit of good governance and the delivery of democratic dividends to citizens.

He spoke during a chat with journalists in Abeokuta.

He noted that the atmosphere of cooperation, forbearance and mutual understanding between the two men has contributed to infrastructural growth, social development and economic empowerment across Ogun, particularly in the Ogun West axis.

According to him, “the sweet orchestra from the governor and the senator has continued to be a solution for the peace in the party today and even for the foreseeable future”.

Adeniji commended Governor Abiodun for sustaining what he described as an atmosphere of serenity within the state and the APC family, saying the governor has shown leadership by working harmoniously with critical partners to advance both the party and the state.

He criticised politicians within the APC who, he said, have resorted to peddling claims of a crisis between Abiodun and Adeola.

He added that the camaraderie and open display of friendship between the two men during the recent Akesan Day celebrations should put such speculation to rest.

Adeniji cautioned party members, especially loyalists of a House of Representatives member, against fuelling tension in the build-up to 2027.

He said, “For several weeks on rebound, these people daily pass offensive innuendoes and unprintable insults on the person of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola; for no justifiable cause and without any provocation.”

He stressed that ambition is an individual right guaranteed by the constitution and that no political interest is superior to another. While acknowledging that many residents across the state are already showing support for Senator Adeola, he warned that the party’s ticket cannot be secured through blackmail or campaigns of calumny.

Adeniji also declared that the push for an Ogun West governor has moved beyond sectional agitation, adding that the recent endorsement of Senator Adeola by his maternal lineage in Kemta Odutolu, Abeokuta, shows Ogun Central’s readiness to support the project.

He said Adeola represents a convergence of Yewa and Egba identity and has built political bridges, structures and alliances across the state in preparation for the 2027 race.

Adeniji called for peace within the party and urged all actors to embrace democratic norms, adding that every participant must be guided by the law and common sense.
