The Ogun State Government has denied claims that it is deliberately frustrating road projects initiated by Senator Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of the state, insisting that what it seeks is coordination and due process, not obstruction.

The government made this known through the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, while speaking on Frontline, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ijebu-Ilese.

Akinmade explained that lawmakers from Ogun State usually inform the government about their constituency projects to aid planning and budgeting, but Senator Daniel had failed to follow the same process.

“If a project the state is contemplating is already captured in the federal budget, the state government will now use the resources made for that one for another road. But in a situation where there is no communication, that’s the problem,” he said.

He noted that the government would never stand in the way of projects meant to bring relief to the people. “The Ogun State Government has no reason whatsoever to block projects that will benefit our people. What we are asking for is coordination so that resources are not wasted and development is well aligned,” Akinmade stressed.

While urging contractors handling constituency projects to liaise closely with the relevant ministries, he appealed to Senator Daniel to cultivate a closer relationship with the Ministry of Works and other appropriate agencies.

The media aide also highlighted Governor Abiodun’s achievements across sectors, noting that the administration had completed over 1,200 kilometres of roads across all 20 local governments.

“We have reconstructed federal highways such as the Ijebu-Ode–Epe road to international standards, and our development agenda is visible in every part of the state,” he said.

According to him, Ogun’s economy has witnessed tremendous growth, moving from ₦3.5 trillion in 2019 to ₦16 trillion in 2025. He added that investors have been flocking to areas such as Sagamu and Papalanto, with plans underway for a Disneyland and entertainment hall that will further revolutionise the state’s economy.

Akinmade also disclosed that the renovation of Olumo Rock, a major tourist landmark, has been yielding about ₦20 million weekly, while the state had the lowest food price increase in the country as of May 2025, according to the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics.

“Our partnership with Lagos State on a ₦500 billion agricultural intervention and the creation of farmers’ markets in Abeokuta are part of deliberate efforts to stabilise food prices,” he said.

He declared that Ogun State remains “arguably the most secure state in Nigeria” owing to the government’s commitment to peace, stability, and investor-friendly policies.

“In the last six years, Ogun State has been the investors’ destination of choice in Nigeria. Governor Abiodun has focused on infrastructure, ICT, agriculture, and peacebuilding, which continue to drive our progress,” Akinmade stated.
