The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans by the state government to empower between 50,000 and 100,000 residents through a monthly cash intervention scheme under the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme.

Abiodun disclosed this on Friday during the opening of the first session of the 15th Synod of the Remo Anglican Diocese held at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Ikenne.

The synod, themed, “The Empty Tomb: An Authentic Proof of the Living Saviour, Jesus Christ,” also featured discussions on governance, peace, and community development.

The governor said the initiative would be implemented within the next one year as part of efforts by his administration to improve the welfare of residents and expand economic opportunities across the state.

He also revealed that his administration would prioritise the reconstruction of the Sagamu–Ode Lemo Road, stressing that collaboration between government and the church remained vital to building a peaceful and progressive society.

Abiodun commended the church for its commitment to spiritual renewal, moral guidance, and community development, noting that religious institutions continue to play important roles in promoting peace and responsible leadership.

According to him, the synod has remained a platform for prayers, reflection, and decision-making that strengthens both the church and society.

The governor praised the Anglican Church for its contributions to education, healthcare, youth development, and family values, describing it as a strong partner in raising responsible citizens.

He said, “Throughout history, the Church has stood as a moral voice in society, defending justice, caring for the vulnerable, and encouraging leaders to govern with fairness and integrity.

“Our administration remains committed to creating renewed opportunities for the economy, institutions, and the people of Ogun State.”

Speaking on the political atmosphere in the state, Abiodun said Ogun had witnessed a significant reduction in political violence compared to seven years ago.

He added that the ongoing primaries of the All Progressives Congress had been peaceful and transparent.

“When I reflect on what happened during my own primaries seven years ago and compare it with what is happening today, it is like night and day.

“Back then, it was all about rancour, violence, thuggery, and political tension. Today, there is peace across Ogun State,” he said.

In his sermon, the Bishop of the Remo Diocese and Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, Olusina Fape, commended the governor for implementing projects across the three senatorial districts of the state.

Fape described the Gateway International Airport as a transformative project capable of boosting commerce and easing transportation within the state.

He also praised the state government’s Light Up Ogun Project, saying the initiative had improved electricity supply and enhanced economic growth across the state.
