The Oyo State Government has officially converted 1,591 ad-hoc staff working across local government councils into permanent employees, fulfilling a promise made by Governor Seyi Makinde to strengthen the workforce at the grassroots level.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, announced the development in Ibadan, stating that the appointment letters for the affected workers are ready for collection.

“This conversion is in line with Governor Makinde’s commitment to improving the local government system and ensuring stability in the workforce,” Ojo said.

It will be recalled that in October 2024, Governor Makinde approved the conversion of ad-hoc staff across the 33 local government areas, a decision aimed at bridging manpower gaps and enhancing service delivery at the local government level.

Speaking on the process, Ojo emphasized that due diligence was followed to ensure a fair and transparent selection.

He urged successful applicants to visit the Local Government Service Commission from Monday, February 3, to Thursday, February 6, 2025, between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM daily to collect their appointment letters.

However, he made it clear that the collection of appointment letters by proxy will not be allowed, advising all successful candidates to personally present themselves at the designated collection points.

Congratulating the newly appointed staff, Ojo expressed confidence in their ability to contribute meaningfully to the local government system. “This is a great opportunity for you to serve and add value to the state. I urge you to be diligent and committed in your roles,” he stated.
