The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man, Godonu Lowe of Omolende Village via Idogo in Yewa South Local Government Area, after operatives intercepted him while he was attempting to flee with the corpse of his wife hidden inside a sack and tied to a motorcycle.
Lowe, who was suspected of killing his wife before trying to escape the community, was stopped by officers after an intelligence report reached the Divisional Police Officer in Ilaro.
The spokesperson for the command, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday.
She said the alarm raised by residents and the swift action of the police prevented the suspect from escaping.
Her statement read, “On Wednesday, 19th November 2025, at about 1305hrs, the Divisional Police Officer in Ilaro received credible information that a suspected felon, Godonu Lowe ‘m’ of Omolende Village via Idogo, was transporting the corpse of an unknown woman on a motorcycle in an attempt to escape from the community.
Acting swiftly, police operatives intercepted the suspect, and a sack tied to the back of his motorcycle was untied. The content was discovered to be the corpse of an adult female, later identified as his wife.”
The police said the woman’s body showed marks of violence, with visible bleeding around the neck. A blood-stained cutlass was also recovered at the crime scene.
According to Odutola, “The body bore marks of violence and bleeding around the neck, suggesting foul play. A blood-stained cutlass was recovered at the crime scene.”
The prime suspect was taken into custody while the remains of the victim have been evacuated to the State Morgue in Ilaro for preservation and autopsy.”
The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the anonymous informant whose report led to the arrest.
He called on residents to keep volunteering information that can help prevent violent crimes. Ogunlowo said even a small suspicion, when reported early, could help save lives and bring offenders to justice.
The incident comes three years after a similar case was recorded in Lagos. In 2022, a man identified as Akpos was accused of burning his wife, Risikat, to death during a domestic argument before fleeing their residence.
