The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 24 year old suspected member of the Aiye confraternity during an operation in Igbesa, Ado Odo Ota area of the state. The suspect, Sulaiman Laja, was picked up by operatives who had been on his trail.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday. She said Laja, described as a dreaded member of the Aiye group, had been troubling residents of Igbesa and nearby communities.
According to her, “The Divisional Police Officer, Igbesa Division, has been commended for the successful arrest of Sulaiman Laja ‘m’, 24 years, a confessed and notorious Aiye cultist who has been terrorising residents of Igbesa and its environs.”
She explained that officers first spotted him in disguise and continued monitoring him until they traced him to his hideout. A search of the place led to the discovery of what she described as “a serviceable single barrel gun, strongly believed to have been used for criminal activities within the community.”
Odutola added that the suspect confessed to being an active member of the Aiye group and “provided useful information identifying other fleeing members of the gang.” She said a manhunt has begun to arrest the others.
The suspect and the recovered gun will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The Command assured residents that its operatives remain committed to flushing out criminal elements and restoring peace across Ogun State.
