Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, working alongside members of a local vigilante group, have arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a locally made cut-to-size Dane gun with three live cartridges during a routine crime prevention patrol in the Odogunyan area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday, saying the suspects were intercepted after attempting to flee on sighting the joint security team. She said a search of a handbag in their possession led to the recovery of the firearm and ammunition.

According to the police, the suspects, identified as 32-year-old Arowolo Damilola and 29-year-old Adewale Adeyinka, were immediately taken into custody following the operation.

“During the patrol operation, the operatives intercepted the two suspects, who were carrying a handbag and attempted to flee upon sighting the security team. They were swiftly apprehended, and a search conducted on the handbag in their possession led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size Dane gun and three live cartridges,” the statement read.

Adebisi added that the suspects are assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commending the officers and members of the vigilante group for their swift response and collaboration, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, said the successful operation reflected the value of community partnership in tackling crime.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, warning criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law.
