Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rescued the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her 12-year-old twin sons from their abductors after three days in captivity.
According to a reliable source on Saturday, the victims were rescued alive during a late-night operation conducted by police operatives at about 7:30 p.m.
The victims were abducted around 7:30 a.m. on June 3 while on their way to drop the children at school, a development that sparked concern among family members and residents.
The police operation led to a gun battle between security operatives and members of the kidnapping gang, resulting in the death of two suspected kidnappers.
Security sources disclosed that two firearms were recovered from the suspects during the operation.
The sources further revealed that sustained intelligence gathering, tactical surveillance and pressure mounted on the kidnappers forced them into a confrontation with police operatives, ultimately leading to the successful rescue of the victims.
A security source was quoted as saying, “The victims were rescued alive during the operation. Two members of the gang were neutralised during an exchange of gunfire with operatives, while arms used by the suspects were recovered.”
The source added that the operation was part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb kidnapping and violent crimes across the country.
Meanwhile, security operatives have launched a manhunt for other members of the syndicate who escaped during the encounter.
Investigators believe some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot injuries and are currently tracking possible hideouts and escape routes linked to the criminal network.
The successful rescue has been welcomed by residents and family members, who commended the police for their swift response and determination in securing the release of the victims without loss of life.
