President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, in a move that ushers in a younger leadership for the nation’s examination body.

The appointment, which was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, takes effect ahead of the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, scheduled for July 31, 2026.

According to the statement, Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, brings strong expertise in digital systems, institutional reform and examination technology.

He is described as a systems expert with more than 15 years of experience advising government institutions on digital transformation, national examination infrastructure and ICT-driven reforms.

The statement added that the new JAMB boss has academic credentials spanning the United Kingdom, including a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed a Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.

Aina, who will be 40 in July, is also noted as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in Computer Engineering and is expected to become the youngest Registrar in the history of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

He has previously served as a consultant to examination bodies such as the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, where he contributed to ICT systems development and examination integrity frameworks.

President Tinubu, according to the statement, expressed confidence that the new appointee would build on the achievements recorded under the outgoing registrar, particularly in strengthening computer-based testing and improving operational efficiency.

The President urged Aina to deploy his experience in advancing reforms within the education assessment system and sustaining improvements already achieved in the board’s operations.
