Apostle Joshua Aghasedo of Powerline Church has said the use of sex toys by married couples does not amount to sin, describing such devices as tools that can assist spouses in improving their intimate life.
Aghasedo made the remarks while speaking to his congregation in a video shared on the church’s YouTube channel on Tuesday. He likened sex toys to other modern equipment such as cars and mobile phones, arguing that their use should be considered within the context of marriage.
According to him, sex toys can assist married couples in improving their sexual experience and addressing certain difficulties within their intimate relationship.
“Is using a sex toy a sin? Is driving a car a sin? A car to drive you from here to Dallas, is it a sin? Using the phone, is it a sin? So, the phone is an equipment, right, and car is an equipment,” he said.
The clergyman, however, stated that he had never personally used a sex toy, but maintained that technological developments had made such devices available as tools that could assist couples.
“I have never used a sex toy. Let me just say. But in this modern day of technology, it’s an equipment. It can help you do the job to 90 per cent, and you finish the remaining 10 per cent. I’m just being real. It can help you,” Aghasedo said.
He stressed that his position applied specifically to married couples and not people outside marriage.
The pastor disclosed that he had previously recommended the use of a sex toy to a married couple after considering their circumstances, saying the intention was to help preserve their marriage and prevent the possibility of infidelity.
“I have suggested sex toy to a couple before when I look at all the surrounding circumstances, so that somebody won’t go out and other things would follow,” he said.
Aghasedo further drew a distinction between the use of sex toys within marriage and their use by individuals outside the marital context.
According to him, using a sex toy alone amounts to masturbation, which he described as fornication within his religious interpretation.
“Now, if you engage it on your own, it’s called masturbation and another word for masturbation is fornication. You get it? If you don’t get it, forget about it. It’s within the marital context,” he added.
