The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, popularly known as So-Safe Corps, has arrested two suspects for alleged burglary, stealing and conspiracy, while intensifying efforts to apprehend another suspect currently at large.
The State Commander of the Corps, Dr Soji Ganzallo, disclosed this in a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander of Corps Adegunwa Adegbuyi.
Ganzallo said one of the suspects, Afolayan Sodiq, 30, was apprehended by operatives of the Iyesi Area Command during a routine patrol led by the Area Commander, ACC Samuel Yusuf, around Royal City College in the early hours of the day.
He explained that the suspect was intercepted while riding a tricycle loaded with several cartons containing groceries and wine, raising suspicion among the patrol team.
During interrogation, Sodiq, who resides on Kajola Street, Atan, Ota, reportedly confessed that a scrap dealer, Muhammed Adamu, contacted him around 3:15pm to assist in transporting goods from the Royal City College/Monarch University area in Iyana Iyesi.
The Corps commander added that the suspect claimed the request was made on behalf of a man identified simply as Lucky, who is currently on the run.
“In order to apprehend other members of the syndicate, the interrogation team instructed Sodiq to call both Adamu and the said Lucky, pretending that all was well. Following the call, Adamu was arrested, while Lucky became suspicious and fled,” Ganzallo stated.
Items recovered from the suspects include cartons of wine, noodles, groundnut oil and a yellow tricycle allegedly used for the operation.
Ganzallo noted that the suspects later led operatives to the scene of the crime for further assessment.
He added that both suspects, alongside the recovered exhibits, have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Onipanu Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
