Jalingo – In a major political shift, all members of the Taraba State House of Assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), aligning themselves ahead of Governor Agbu Kefas’ planned defection to the ruling party on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
The lawmakers, elected under the PDP platform and including those who had recently joined the party, cited persistent internal disputes at the national level as the reason for their departure.
They also emphasized the importance of aligning with the centre to ensure federal presence and developmental benefits for Taraba State.
With the mass defection, the 24-member assembly now sits entirely under the APC platform, marking a significant consolidation of the party in the state legislature ahead of the governor’s formal move.
Reacting to the development, a senior lawmaker, who preferred anonymity, stated, “This decision was necessary to provide stability and ensure that Taraba benefits from federal engagement. The rancour in PDP made it difficult to plan and implement meaningful policies.”
Political analysts have described the shift as a strategic move that positions the APC as the dominant force in the state, potentially influencing upcoming elections and policy direction.
Governor Kefas is scheduled to formalize his defection to APC on Wednesday, a move widely expected to further strengthen the party’s influence across Taraba.
