President Bola Tinubu will embark on a two-nation trip on Saturday, June 28, with scheduled visits to Saint Lucia and Brazil for a series of diplomatic and economic engagements.
The President is expected to meet with Saint Lucia’s Governor-General, Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles, and Prime Minister Philip Pierre, as well as address a joint session of the island nation’s Senate and House of Assembly at the Sandals Grande, Gros Islet.
His visit to Saint Lucia will also feature a high-level luncheon with leaders of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, focusing on economic partnerships and cultural cooperation.
Tinubu is also scheduled to visit the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries to promote educational exchange between Nigeria and the Caribbean nation.
According to a statement by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, the visit is part of efforts to deepen Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic ties with Caribbean states, especially under the African Union’s Sixth Region framework, which recognises the African diaspora as a key development partner.
After his engagements in Saint Lucia, Tinubu will proceed to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 17th BRICS Summit from July 6 to 7, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Nigeria currently holds “partner country” status within BRICS, joining other African nations such as South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia in discussions aimed at boosting cooperation among countries in the Global South.
The summit will focus on strengthening partnerships for inclusive and sustainable development across social, economic, and environmental sectors. Tinubu will be accompanied by senior government officials on the trip.
