Minister for Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu would impose him as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State for the 2027 election.
Speaking with journalists in Ibadan while hosting APC leaders and ward chairmen, Adelabu emphasized that the party would conduct a primary to determine the best candidate.
He noted that healthy competition is essential and that no aspirant should feel sidelined.
“I’m ready to engage in healthy competition that will not lead to hatred or bad blood. After the primary, there will be a platform for reconciliation, and all aspirants will have opportunities for nominations and appointments,” Adelabu said.
He added that even if the president favors a candidate, his role would be limited to personal support rather than imposing any aspirant.
“The best advice President Tinubu will give me is to go back to my state to work and win people to my side, which I have started,” he stated.
Adelabu described Tinubu as a true democrat who respects the voice of the people and followership.
“Nobody can do any top-down imposition of an aspirant. People want to see a candidate voluntarily elected, and that is what I’m preaching,” he concluded.
