The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally issued expulsion certificates to 11 former members, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former Governor Ayo Fayose; and former national secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
The certificates serve as official proof that the affected individuals are no longer members of the party.
The new national chairman of the party, Tanimu Turaki, SAN, disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing journalists in Abuja. According to Turaki, all certificates have been dispatched to the recipients via courier service.
“Distinguished members of the press, as I speak to you, these certificates have been dispatched via courier to the 11 persons who have been expelled.”
“Now that they are no longer members of our party, these certificates will allow them to register with other political parties without concerns over dual membership, which Nigerian law frowns upon,” Turaki said.
Turaki displayed copies of the certificates to journalists, highlighting the individuals affected. “This is the certificate of expulsion of His Excellency Nyesom Wike. An original copy has gone to him via courier.’
“This is the certificate of His Excellency Ayodele Fayose; it has also been sent to him through courier. Next is the certificate of distinguished Senator Samuel Anyanwu; it has been sent to him via courier,” he said.
Others who received the expulsion certificates include Umaru Bature, Kamarudeen Ajibade, Abdurahman Muhammad, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah Nnanna, George Turna, and Chief Dan Orbih.
The issuance of the certificates follows decisions made by the PDP National Convention in Ibadan, which had expelled the members earlier.
Turaki emphasized that the party’s action ensures compliance with Nigerian law and clarifies the status of the affected members.
