The reinstated Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adegbola, on Saturday, pledged to lead with wisdom and compassion, promising peace, development and progress for all indigenes of the ancient town.

Oba Adegbola made this known while delivering his acceptance speech during the coronation ceremony held at the Eleruwa Stadium in Sango, within Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Governor Seyi Makinde had officially presented the staff of office and instruments of appointment to the reinstated monarch on March 6, 2025, after Eruwa remained without a traditional ruler for over five years following his removal by a Supreme Court judgment in 2019.

Speaking at the event, the monarch commended Governor Makinde for what he described as fairness, steadfastness, and courage in upholding royal tradition and due process that led to his reinstatement as the Eleruwa of Eruwa.

“I pledge to lead with wisdom, compassion, and work for the peace, progress, and development of all Eruwa people. During my reign, I will harness the energy of our youths while listening to the wisdom of our elders. Together, we will build a kinder, more tolerant, and more compassionate community,” Oba Adegbola stated.

The monarch also assured that the Eleruwa-in-Council under his leadership would collaborate with the government to address the needs of the people and support efforts to lift the community out of poverty.

“To my people of Eruwa, I am aware of the challenges we face and the divisions among us. We will address these issues with honesty and unity. I solicit for peace, cooperation, and friendship, not vendetta or bitterness,” he added.

Oba Adegbola urged the state government to ensure the speedy completion of the Eleyele-Ido-Eruwa Road, noting its significance to the region’s development.

In his response, Governor Makinde assured the people of Ibarapaland that the road project would be completed within the next 11 months.

“On behalf of myself and the government of Oyo State, I apologise to the people for the delay. But I promise you, within 11 months, that road will be completed. If not, don’t allow me to step into Eruwa again,” Makinde declared.

The governor also expressed joy that the prolonged tussle over the Eleruwa stool has been resolved, urging other contenders to the throne to put the past behind and join hands with the monarch to foster peace and progress in Eruwa.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, also commended Governor Makinde for his unwavering support in making the coronation a reality.
