The All Progressives Congress has condemned the call for foreign invasion of Nigeria made by the factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Tanimu Turaki.

The ruling party said Turaki’s comment was irresponsible and dangerous, warning that it posed a direct threat to national security and sovereignty.

The statement was released in Abuja on Tuesday and signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka. It was issued as a formal reaction to Turaki’s address to journalists earlier in the day. Turaki had alleged a “Christian genocide” in the country and urged foreign powers to intervene in what he described as an attempt to protect democracy.

According to the APC, Turaki’s remarks were unpatriotic and showed a troubling level of desperation. “Turaki’s call for foreign invasion of Nigeria is reckless and unpatriotic,” the party said, adding that the new PDP factional chairman “looked and sounded desperate, at his wit’s end, confused, incoherent, and grossly lacking in stamina and capacity to manage his party’s crisis.”

The ruling party said Nigerians had expected Turaki to focus on reconciling the warring factions within the PDP instead of making comments capable of destabilising the country.

“Instead of embarking on a peace-building mission, Turaki’s first official act was his call for foreign invasion of Nigeria as a solution to the self-inflicted internal crisis of his PDP,” the statement added. “That is as shameless as it is a dangerous threat to national security and sovereignty.”

The APC noted that even during the PDP’s sixteen years in power, the party never suggested foreign invasion as a way to resolve opposition disputes. It argued that Turaki’s comment was a confirmation of “the party’s incapacity to manage its internal contradictions” and should be seen as “a final certification of the PDP’s demise.”

“We trust the international community to dismiss the PDP’s disgraceful and unpatriotic call as a pitiful distraction from the failure of its internal democracy and embarrassing disintegration,” the APC said.

The party urged Nigerians to remain committed to the current administration. “We urge Nigerians to stand firm in support of our great party and the visionary leadership of President Bola Tinubu as we continue the arduous task of building progress and prosperity in all areas of our national life,” the statement concluded.
