Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has returned to active party politics with his formal registration as a member of the African Democratic Congress in Adamawa State.
The registration took place on Monday as supporters lined the streets to welcome him. His convoy moved through the town while residents sang, danced and held placards bearing his image. Atiku waved from his vehicle and acknowledged the crowd before receiving his ADC membership card.
One of his aides, Abdul Rasheeth, confirmed the development in a statement made available to journalists. He said Atiku’s decision was clear and deliberate.
According to him, “This marks a new phase in the reorganisation of the opposition and the preparation for the 2027 elections.”
Shortly after completing his registration, Atiku posted a short message on his X handle. He wrote, “It’s official. AA.”
His decision to join the party comes months after he publicly endorsed the ADC as a platform capable of uniting key opposition figures, including Peter Obi and Babachir Lawal, in the push to challenge Tinubu in the next general election.
