The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has come to the defence of Governor Dapo Abiodun, saying his administration has constructed over 1,500 roads across the state despite attempts by some disgruntled politicians to discredit his government through what it described as a sponsored blackmail campaign.

In a statement signed by its Director of Publicity, Nuberu Olufemi, the party alleged that some politicians had hired mercenaries from outside the state to record and circulate videos of bad roads in a bid to manipulate public opinion and undermine the achievements of the governor.

According to the party, such tactics were designed to create a false narrative that the Abiodun administration had failed in infrastructure delivery, even though it had executed several landmark projects, including the Atan-Lusada-Agbara road, Mojoda-Epe road, Sagamu Interchange-Abeokuta road, and Sango Ota-Lagos road, among others.

Olufemi noted that no government could possibly fix every road in a state within eight years, stressing that the present administration had surpassed all previous ones in road development and infrastructure renewal.

He said, “Knowing full well that the end is near for their political ambition, these disgruntled politicians have raised an army of mercenaries recruited from outside the state and posing as objective observers to badmouth the Ogun State Government on roads that have not been done, while conveniently keeping quiet about the many that have been done across the length and breadth of the state.”

Describing the campaign as deceptive and politically motivated, the APC spokesman maintained that the Abiodun administration had consistently delivered on its promises to make Ogun a hub of investment and development.

He said, “This deceptive campaign, which is not from concerned citizens but from evil politicians seeking to pollute the air space, is demonstrably silly, especially as no government is on record to have matched Abiodun’s achievement in Ogun State.”

Olufemi further lambasted the critics, accusing them of hypocrisy and failure during their own time in office. “If these cry babies had been fantastic in their performance, why has the Abiodun government had to attend to a huge number of roads abandoned by previous administrations?” he asked.

The party listed some of the governor’s notable achievements, including the Gateway International Airport, improved internally generated revenue, peace and stability, and the attraction of foreign investment to the state.

“Ogun under Abiodun has peace and stability, no political assassinations and no hounding of political opponents. The state is now known for progress and development, not the antics of politicians seeking to mislead the people,” Olufemi added.
