Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has described the approval of the Abeokuta Division of the Court of Appeal as a major boost to justice delivery and economic development in the state.

The governor stated this on Wednesday during the State Treasury Board Meeting for the 2025–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and the 2026 Budget Session held at the Oba’s Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Abiodun commended the President of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Monica Bolna’an Dongban-Mensem, for what he called a visionary and pragmatic decision that recognizes Ogun’s growing judicial and commercial significance.

He said, “Justice Dongban-Mensem deserves commendation for her foresight and fairness in approving the establishment of the Ogun Division of the Court of Appeal. This decision reflects her deep commitment to justice, fairness, and accessibility.”

The governor noted that the state government had already met all conditions required for the establishment of the new division, adding that land and infrastructure have been provided to ensure immediate commencement of the project.

Abiodun explained that about 75 percent of appeal cases handled by the Ibadan Division originate from Ogun State, stressing that the new division would help decongest the Ibadan Court and ensure quicker justice delivery.

He further said, “The new Court of Appeal in Abeokuta will bring justice closer to our people and play a key role in enhancing investor confidence. It is a major pillar in our Ease of Doing Business Index and an enabler of commercial growth.”

According to him, the state had already secured a site for the court complex adjacent to the Judiciary Complex along Kobape Road, Abeokuta, while construction would commence immediately. He assured that the project would be completed and functional before the end of his administration, even without waiting for federal funding.

Abiodun added that the establishment of the court was a legacy project that aligns with his administration’s agenda for institutional reform and economic progress.

He also commended the Ogun State judiciary for its cooperation and professionalism, describing it as the “last hope of the common man and a vital partner in governance.”
