Ogun Water Corporation Moves Against Illegal Connections, Meter Bypass

The Ogun State Water Corporation has launched a statewide clampdown on illegal water connections, meter tampering, and other revenue leakages, warning that offenders will face heavy fines and possible prosecution.

The move, according to a statement issued by the Special Adviser on SDGs and Water Resources, Ogun State Water Corporation, is part of a newly introduced enforcement campaign tagged Operation SWEEP, aimed at curbing unlawful practices that undermine water supply operations.

The statement noted that individuals or groups involved in unauthorized tap-downs, meter bypass, or any form of illegal water connection will face strict sanctions.

“The government will not continue to lose vital revenue due to illicit and sharp practices. We are coming to the neighborhoods, consider this a final warning,” the statement read.

It added that customers owing above ₦300,000 will have their water supply disconnected unless they clear their debts, either fully or through approved installment payment arrangements.

The corporation expressed concern that defaulting customers were negatively affecting its ability to sustain and improve water supply infrastructure and services across the state.

The statement further revealed that under the Use or Lose policy, any customer whose water meter has not been vended within the last three to six months risks repossession. Such meters, according to the corporation, will be reassigned to active and compliant customers.

“All consumers are therefore urged to vend regularly or allow Corporation officials access to recover such meters,” it added.

While advising residents to desist from illegal practices, the Ogun State Water Corporation called on all its customers to settle outstanding debts and cooperate with officials to avoid sanctions or disconnections.
