Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has taken a swipe at a member of the House of Representatives, James Faleke, following a war of words over the outcome of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
TheCable Lifestyle reported that the exchange followed the re-election of Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party and was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.
Davido had earlier accused Faleke and two other APC lawmakers of attempting to influence the election outcome and pressure INEC to alter the results.
The singer, who was actively involved in his uncle’s campaign, also said the people of Osun had rejected Oyebamiji and former governor, Gboyega Oyetola, while declaring that he would not support the APC.
Faleke, who travelled to Osun State to campaign for the APC candidate, dismissed the allegation, saying he had no power to influence the outcome of the election. He also compared his presence in the state to Davido’s decision to support his uncle.
Reacting to Faleke’s response in a post on X on Sunday, Davido wrote: “Politics is not a career. Get a Job!”
The singer subsequently congratulated Adeleke on his victory and re-election for a second term as governor of Osun State.
