The Convener of the United Premier Movement (UPM), Olalekan A. Shoyinka, popularly known as Ayinla Egba, has commended Tinubu for what he described as a bold and strategic step in reshuffling the nation’s Service Chiefs, saying the decision reflects courage and a clear understanding of Nigeria’s current security challenges.

In a statement personally signed by him, Shoyinka said the President’s move could not have come at a better time, noting that it demonstrates leadership commitment to reinforcing the country’s defence architecture.

“I sincerely commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the bold and strategic decision to reshuffle the nation’s Service Chiefs at this critical juncture in our national security history.

“This is indeed a thoughtful step towards strengthening our defence structure and reassuring Nigerians that the government remains alert and responsive to emerging threats, both within and outside our borders,” he said.

He said the timing of the reshuffle aligns with recent regional and global realities, especially amid reports of military interventions in some African countries.

According to him, “The President’s decision could not have come at a better time. It reflects a leader who understands that safeguarding democracy requires not only courage but continuous renewal of trust, loyalty, and capacity within the security system.”

While commending the outgoing Service Chiefs led by General Christopher Musa for their service, he acknowledged their dedication to maintaining national stability.

“They served with courage and commitment, and their contributions to national stability will never be forgotten,” Shoyinka stated.

He also charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs; General Olufemi Oluyede (Chief of Defence Staff), Major-General W. Shaibu (Chief of Army Staff), Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke (Chief of Air Staff), and Rear Admiral I. Abbas (Chief of Naval Staff) to discharge their duties with utmost professionalism and loyalty to the country.

“I urge you to defend our democracy with every sense of duty, honour, and patriotism.

“The confidence reposed in you must be repaid with renewed professionalism, collaboration, and focus on the welfare of our troops,’ he said.

Shoyinka further emphasized the need for better motivation and welfare for Nigerian soldiers, stating that the strength of any nation depends not only on the weapons it wields but on the well-being of those who carry them.

“Our gallant soldiers must be well-motivated and properly equipped because the lives of Nigerian citizens wherever we live must be treated as sacred and worthy of protection at all times,” he added.

Expressing optimism for the future, the UPM Convener called on Nigerians to support the new Service Chiefs through prayers and cooperation, describing the development as “a new dawn” for the Armed Forces and national security.

“As a patriotic citizen and as the Convener of the United Premier Movement, I join millions of Nigerians in praying for their success. May this new chapter in our Armed Forces mark a golden era of renewed strength, peace, and stability in Nigeria,” he said.
