The Ekiti State Government has approved the appointment of three new traditional rulers for Ayebode, Emure, and Esun communities.
This followed the decisions reached during the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, Prince Omolayo Olusola Emmanuel from the Aketepe ruling house has been appointed as the new Owa of Ayebode-Ekiti in Ikole Local Government Area. He succeeds the late Oba Augustine Tayo Famoroti of the Famoroti ruling house, who passed away in September 2022.
The state also confirmed the selection of Prince Ajiboye Babatunde James of the Abenimota ruling house as the new Elemure of Emure-Ekiti. He replaces the late Oba Emmanuel Adebowale Adebayo of the Adumori ruling house, who died in May 2024.
In Esun-Ekiti, Ikole Local Government Area, Prince Bankole Olasehinde Ilugbusi was appointed as the new Elesun of Esun. His appointment follows the death of Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin of the Ijisun ruling house, who was killed by armed bandits in January 2024.
Olatunbosun explained that all appointments strictly followed the provisions of the Ekiti State Chiefs Law (2012) and the established Registered Chieftaincy Declarations for each community.
The legal processes, including the publication of official notices in the State Government Gazette, have been concluded to formalise the appointments.
