The Ogun State Government has said that repair works on major roads in the Ota axis will begin soon, assuring residents that contractors will move to site shortly.

The government made this known during a meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA Ota Branch, who visited the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN.

Speaking for the government, Ogungbade confirmed that six major roads in Ota have already been awarded to Craneburg Construction. The roads are Joju, Koro Otun, Navy, Isikola, Ilo Awela and Oju Ore. According to him, mobilisation will take place shortly.

He added that other projects in the corridor have been broken into four phases which include the 5.3km Itele to Ayobo link road to Lagos, Ayobo Mopol to Lafenwa Junction, another phase of Koro Otun and the Itele to Lafenwa Junction stretch. He said work on the first and second phases would start immediately.

Ogungbade acknowledged the grievances that led to the NBA’s peaceful protest on October 25, 2025. He assured that the concerns raised would receive attention. “Your agitation will get a positive response,” he said.

He encouraged the Bar to use its direct access to government to drive engagement, noting that the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun has built or rehabilitated more than 1,500 kilometres of roads across the state. “Many of these roads are in Ota,” he said.

The government delegation included the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Olusegun Olaotan, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Engr. Oladimeji Yusuf and the Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Kayode Akinmade.

They explained that some of the roads causing public concern are federal roads and that the state could not intervene for years because the Federal Government had restricted such action. They said it was Tinubu’s approval that cleared the way for the current rehabilitation effort.

Akinmade commended the NBA for adopting a constructive approach but warned them to be careful of political interests trying to exploit the situation.

He said, “Be wary of political adversaries attempting to hijack the genuine concerns of residents for self-serving motives.”

He added that some of the actors “have been hiring individuals to spotlight bad roads and malign the government, even when the affected roads fall under federal jurisdiction.”

Earlier, the NBA chairperson, Chief Kelubia K. Ajose, and a senior advocate and elder of the Branch, Sola Ojutalayo, SAN, said their protest reflected the frustration of Ota residents.

They said the association took steps to prevent external forces from taking over the action and pointed out human activities that worsen road conditions in the area.

The government restated its readiness for continued dialogue with stakeholders. It disclosed that beyond ongoing works, eleven new road projects were approved in November 2025.

It assured the public that although the current situation may still bring discomfort, a lasting transformation of Ota’s road network is already in progress.
