Craneburg Construction Limited, the company handling the reconstruction of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway, has disclosed that the project has now reached over 50 percent completion, assuring residents of its timely delivery.

The Project Manager of Craneburg, Mr. Pierre Andary, gave the update during an inspection tour of the ongoing road works at Itori in Ewekoro Local Government Area, led by the Ogun State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya.

Andary explained that asphalt laying had already commenced on several sections of the road, adding that despite the challenges posed by the rainy season, work has continued steadily to ensure the project is delivered within record time.

He said, “We are making steady progress. Despite weather-related issues, our team has continued work daily to meet the timeline and deliver a strong and durable road for the people.”

Speaking during the inspection, Engr. Akinsanya reaffirmed that the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun remains committed to providing quality and long-lasting road infrastructure across Ogun State.

He noted that the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway, which was once in a deplorable condition, has undergone a major turnaround since the current administration came on board in 2019.

“Before this administration came on board, the road was totally impassable. The Sango-Ota axis was like a swimming pool. We made tremendous efforts to fix that, but road reconstruction is not a one-day operation. It takes time,” Akinsanya stated.

The Commissioner further explained that the government adopted a concrete pavement design, particularly along the Ewekoro axis, to guarantee durability and reduce long-term maintenance costs, given the area’s high water table.

He also dismissed a recent viral video showing bad sections of the road, insisting it did not reflect the current progress.

According to him, the state government has already addressed several traffic concerns along the corridor.

“Work is ongoing and will continue until completion,” he assured, urging motorists to drive carefully during the rainy season.

Other road projects inspected during the tour included the 8.17km Magboro–Makogi Road, Akute–Alagbole Road, 9.2km Oke-Aro–Agbado Road, and Papalanto Road, which cut across Abeokuta North, Ado-Odo/Ota, Ifo, and Ewekoro Local Government Areas.

The Project Manager of CCECC Nigeria Limited, Mr. Jason Zhang, who is handling the Magboro–Makogi Road, said steady progress was being made and appreciated the cooperation of both motorists and the state government.

Residents, including Mr. Uche Okoro and Alhaji Wasiu Sanusi, commended the state government’s renewed drive to complete the roads, noting that the ongoing projects would ease transportation challenges and boost economic activities in the region.
